It's got a vacuum controlled regulator so the computers not involved there. I don't remember what the theft light was doing during cranking and it's working right now so I can't check until it breaks again, but why would cycling the key reset the anti-theft? I'm so lost as to why the computer shut it down in the first place. I don't trust it right now and I'm wondering what can cause the computer to shut down the fuel pump and then change its mind when the codes are cleared. I cycled the key on and off a bunch of times until the doors unlocked to do that little computer reset/code clearing procedure, and it fired right up and I cant get it to break again. I hooked up a scan tool and had only one code: p0171- bank 1 lean.

I swapped the fuel pump fuse and relay out with some other fuses and relays that had the same amperage/part number from other holes in the fuse box. I wanted to make sure it was the pump, so I hammered on the tank by the sending unit and still no fuel pressure. I hooked up my pressure gauge and was showing a flat 0 psi. The random inability to start seemed to hint at a bad fuel pump armature. When it was finally broken again, I figured I'd check the fuel pressure first. It took me four hours of playing with it and turning it on and off to recreate the problem. I go to start it and what do you know, it fired right up.

I used my other vehicle for the day and came back to look at the truck tonight.
